In the fCiroult Court yesterday Judge Trnly presiding, Armstead English, the colored boy, who with his brothers, Henry and Sam were in dieted for attempting to wreck a pas ganger train on the Natchez and Jaok son division of the Y. and M. V.
Railroad, was conivoted, by ajary nnd to-day Judge Truly will deolare his sentence. The maximum sentence in a case of this kind is 10 years The district attorney eoored telling points during the examination of the witnesses and his cross-examination of the witnesses for the defense mate rially strengthened the prosecution His argument was clear, masterful logical and convincing The testi mony and his argument were suffloient The Jury was out fifteen minntes when the court was notified that a verdict had been reached The jury filed into the court room. The verdict was 'guilty as charged The crime was committed on the night of June 16. On that night the English brothers, Sam, Henry and Armstead made their fourth attemj to wreck the outgoing 7 :85 p. m.
train which is a mixed train aud frequently carries a large number of passengers. The two elder brothers placed the obstruction on the tra.k while Arm Btead was stationed near by as a look out. Engineer M. A. Tyer was hand ling the engine and as three unsuc cessful attempt, had been made to wreck the train he kept a close watch ahead.
As the train neared the well known place near Foster, about six miles from the city, his watchful eye noted the obstrnction and he stopped the train The obstruction was re moved and the train proceeded to Harriston There a posse was made np with Mr. O. M. Becker, the trainmaster of the T. and M.
SDecial Officer Onrrie and the following citizens of Harriston W. G. MoNair George and Joe Becker, C. P. and H.
H. Gates, 0. F. Howard, Emory Maddox and A K. Voss.
The train doubled back to Foster as a special. The train crew was as follows: Uonduotor Joe Bowen, Engineer M. A. Tyer, Fire man John Gunning, Whit Keia, Express Messenger Harry Furnell. The posse left the train just this tide of Foster and walked to the resi dence of the negroes.
It was 1 o'clock m. and the negroes were in tne They surrendered without trouble. Armstead, the youngest of the three, confessed and implicated his two brothers They were taken to the train and the special train started for Natchez. It was about 2 :15 o'clock in the morning when the men reached the jail. Engineer Tyer wasseit after Jus tice Merirck and the negroes were taken to the jail.
Justice Merrick lost 'no time in responding to the call and arrived at his office at 3 :30 clock The affidavit was made out by Justice Merrick and sworn to by Mr. 0. P. Bledsoe. The negroes were then locked up to await further action by the courts.
Armstead confessed the whole thing to Jailer Stampley, Police Offioer Paul and others and candidly stated that they had made four attempts to wreck the train. Henry and Sam will be tried at the next term of oourt In the oase of Randal Thompson, vs N. O. and N. W.

Address sterling Uemedy Chicago or New York, JUDGE TRULY COMPLIMENTS THE JURORS AND COURT ATTACHES. There was a very pleasing incident during the closing hours of yester day's session in the Circuit Court The jury in the Armstead English case had just reported its verdict and in dismissing the jurors Judge Truly took occasion to compliment the gent lemen who were members of the Jury during the session whioh will close to day and he made some very compli mentary remarks about the attaches of the court He was pleased to see that business men were so ready and prompt in the discharge of their duty as jurors and that by their conscientious dovotiou to this duty they had discharged a very great obligation to society and to their community. He complimented Sheriff Duncan Baker, Deputy Sheriff Volney M. Lid dell aud the very efficient deputy circuit clerk Lamar Lambert, who keeps the minutes of the court. Judge Truly said that it was a pleasure to have such an efficient deputy and remarked that the minutes were kept in a neat careful style and always ready for the court For one of his years the deputy clerk was most efficient and painstak iug The deputy gave his entire time aud attention to the work and he was thoroughly familiar with all the min ute details of the routine and rather laborious work of the court.
This goes to show that Judge Trnly is a very observant official and it should be stated en passent that the judge himself has demonstrated that he is a live, painstaking and conscie ntious gentleman. During his incumbency he has exerted himself in the effort to'conduot the affairs of the court in a progressive business man ner and with a view 'of reducing the expenses of the court to the minimum. The aldermen have acted upon the suggestion and their petitions will be sent in to the city clerk to-day for safe keeping. As the world prows oider It crows ieer and more practical.

Leathers the citizens of the Cres cent City go down in their pockets and chip in for the purchase of a new boat for the only woman csptaiujin the world. As the snag boat N. Macomb is again headed south we would respectfully suggest that she go down as far Ford's crossing and locate that 800 pound anchor lost there by the T.
Leathers three years ago. It is believed that the Natchez struck this anchor and as a result she is now placed in the category of "sunken steamers. The government steamer Chisc-a, with a tow of quarter and willow boats passed up this morning. 3 FREE VACCINATION. With reference to the statement published in these oolumns yesterday that the local and oouuty health officers would vaccinate the poor and indigent free of charge, we would say that every person who is in a position to pay for the serivce is expected to do so. The proposition made by Dr. French is to the effect that he will vaccinate the children in the two public schools, who do not show a satisfactory scar of former vaccination, such other vaccination of people who, in his judgment, cannot afford to pay a physician the regular price and to cooks, house servants, porters aud others who have regular employment for the sum of 25e apiece.
